Emily Steffen: Android Geishas!

Emily Steffen: Android Geishas!

Check out this awesome series of android geishas by Chicago-based artist Emily Steffen, who had this to say about the series: "When I made these I drew from the history of Geishas living in Okiyas in old Japan, being almost doll-like entertainment for male patrons. Every gesture and movement made, every word spoken was rigorously trained into these women. This reminded me of the pre-programming of androids and robots in sci-fi literature, so I created my own futuristic, dystopian vision of the Geisha in this series. I also tried to use a very monochromatic palette throughout each piece, aside from the Geishas' inhuman synthetic hair." How awesome is that?! Take a look at this series below.

Art By Meg Harman

Art By Meg Harman

Rapid City, South Dakota-based artist Meg Harman cites both Frida Khalo and Salvador Dali as major influences of hers. I, personally, also see a lot of Peter Chung (creator of the original Æon Flux animated series) in her work. When you allow your hand and mind to lose control, yet stay synched with each other, when creating art good things usually happen. Take a look at Meg's work below! We really love it.
